Having just returned from a very successful conference in Nairobi, the AITEC Banking & Mobile Money COMESA (Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa) on the 24th & 25th Feb 2010, our CEO Graham Gilmour is buoyed by the interest shown in the Business Phone service offering. Appropriately the theme of the event, which took place at the prestigious Kenyatta International Conference Centre, was "Banking Leadership through Innovation".
Day 1 Mr Gilmour joined a number of distinguished experts on a panel to discuss the first day's events and to debate the topic "Are COMESA's Financial Institutions winning the war against card fraud?"
Day 2 Mr Gilmour gave the main Business Phone presentation headlined "Empowering Africa's new Mobile Merchants". This was attended by African banking leaders who showed very strong interest in what the CEO had to say on the vast potential that Africa has in developing its mobile financial sevices, and how Paystream is already a part of this. |

NAIROBI, Kenya, Feb 26 - Kenyan banks have reached a two million Visa card milestone up from one million three years ago. The target which also celebrates a $3.3 billion transaction volume on Visa cards has seen Kenyan banks bring more people into the formal financial services system despite the fact that mobile service providers also provide money transfer services.

The Care Takers Nursery and Orphans feeding centre now proudly boasts brand new signage courtesy of The Business Phone. The pictures below show Graham Gilmour being enthusiastically received by the children and staff.
There are a number of events planned for the centre including a coach trip to see local wildlife (including a meal of pizza & chips; a special treat for the children!), a work experience day at the Nairobi office for the 15 eldest children, and a sports day including a donation of sports equipment.
Needless to say, the children and staff at the centre have been made to feel very special and are very thankful (and excited) by all the kindness received.

The Business Phone is keen to develop a social empowerment agenda alongside the core business model. One example of this is the sponsoring of the Care Takers Nursery and Orphans feeding centre, situated in the sprawling slums of Korogocho. The centre began its operation in 2001 by providing a feeding program to orphans and other vulnerable children in the area.
Currently, it takes care of over 220 orphans, many of whom are HIV Positive. This week the Business Phone and its Kenyan team have adopted the school, and the directors have taken over the monthly rent of £40.00. They have also donated 240 pens & pencils, medicines, and enough food for two weeks. As you can see from the images below, it is a very worthwhile cause, and one that we are proud to be a part of.

Sometimes it's pretty difficult for our shareholders and potential investors to get an absolutely clear feel of our business model...that's understandable as most of the investors live in the UK whilst our business operates in East Africa.
So I thought it seemed l like a good idea to highlight a recent business win to show you all how exciting this business really is.
